Simple Fruit Salad with Orange Juice
The ingredients of the simple fruit salad
1 cup orange juice, Avocado Fruit Salad, 3 medium ripe pitted California avocados, 2 tbsp. lemon juice
1/2 cup plain yogurt, 2 tbsp. honey, 1 tsp. grated lemon peel, I medium apple, 1 medium firm banana,
1 cup halved seedless grapes, 1 can (11 oz.) drained mandarin oranges.
Tropical Fruit Salad
1 pineapple
2 mangoes
2 bananas
1/2 cup drained canned lychees in syrup
1/2 cup pomegranate seeds
3 tbsp. shredded sweetened dried coconut
Method 1 of 5: Simple Fruit Salad
1Choose your fruits. Pick up fresh fruit from the farmer's market or your local grocery store and make sure that they are nice and ripe and ready to be made into a salad. If they are not ripe enough, then the salad will be a bit tough to chew. It is better for them to be a bit overripe than unripe so that the flavors blend. For this simple fruit salad, you'll need strawberries, cherries, blueberries, red apples, peaches, and a kiwi.
2Wash all of your fruits. It's important to wash all of your fruits before you dice them into a salad.
3Halve your cherries. If you want the salad to be easy to eat without having to run into any cherry pits, then you should halve 1 cup of red cherries before you put them into the salad. Just cut each cherry in half and remove its pit.
4Chop the strawberries, red apple, peach, and kiwi into bite-sized pieces. Place 1 cup of strawberries, 1 cup of cherries, 1/2 of a red apple, 1/2 of a peach, and 1 kiwi on a cutting board and dice them into bite-sized pieces, measuring over 1 inch (2.5 cm) or so.
5Place all the fruit in a bowl. You can coat the bowl in 2 tbsp. of lemon juice first to sweeten the fruit and keep them from oxidizing quickly. Place the strawberries, chopped cherries, 1/2 of a red apple, 1/2 of a peach, 1 kiwi, and 1/2 a cup of blueberries together in the bowl. You can toss them lightly to blend the flavors.
6Serve. Enjoy this dish at room temperature or slightly chilled. Pair this dish with a glass of orange juice to help bring out its fruity flavor.
Method 2 of 5: Simple Fruit Salad with Orange Juice
1Pour 1 cup of orange juice into a bowl.
2Pour the chopped ingredients of the simple fruit salad into the bowl. Allow them to soak in the orange juice for at least five minutes.
3Serve. Drain the orange juice from the fruit bowl and enjoy this delicious tangy fruit salad. If you're an orange juice lover, then you can drain the juice in to a cup and drink it, or even enjoy the fruit salad with the juice in the bowl.
Method 3 of 5: Avocado Fruit Salad
1Cut the avocados into chunks. Cut 3 medium ripe pitted California avocados into chunks. To do this, you can cut the avocado in half, take out the pit, and then make checkered cuts along both sides of the avocado, making sure the knife goes into almost the back of the avocado. Then, you can scoop out the avocado cubes with a spoon
2Place them in a bowl.
3Drizzle them with 2 tbsp. of lemon juice. Toss them to coat them with the juice.
4Drain the juice and reserve it. Set the avocados aside.
5Make the dressing. Combine the 1/2 cup of plain yogurt, 2 tbsp. of honey, and 1 tsp. of grated lemon peel together in a small bowl.
6Toss the fruit and avocado together in a large bowl. Dice and toss I medium apple, 1 medium firm banana, 1 cup halved seedless grapes, and 1 can (11 oz.) of drained mandarin oranges together in a bowl.
7Coat the fruit with the dressing. Pour the dressing over the fruit and toss it to combine the ingredients.
8Finished.
Method 4 of 5: Tropical Fruit Salad
1Prepare the fruit. Core and chop 1 large pineapple, chop 2 ripe mangoes, slice 2 bananas, chop 1/2 cup of drained canned lychees in syrup, and gather 1/2 a cup of pomegranate seeds from a fresh pomegranate. Toss the fruit lightly to combine the ingredients.
2Refrigerate the fruit for 1 day. This will give the flavors enough time to combine.
3Toast 3 tbsp. of shredded sweet dried coconut over medium heat. Toast it for 1-2 minutes until it's golden.
4Transfer the shredded coconut to a plate.
5Top the salad with the coconut.
6Serve. Enjoy this tropical fruit salad with a glass of mango juice or on its own.
Method 5 of 5: Other Fruit Salad
1Make a summer combination fruit salad. Make this tasty salad with pineapple, cherries, bananas, and various other tasty fruits.
2Make a watermelon basket fruit salad. This delicious fruit salad includes honeydew melon and cantaloupe poured into a tasty watermelon basket.
3Make a Sri Lankan fruit salad. Make this tasty fruit salad with pineapple, orange, kiwi, and a dose of sugar.
4Make a chicken fruit salad. Make this tasty chicken fruit salad with the usual suspects with chicken, mayonnaise, and celery.
Tips
Instead of lemon juice, you can add chopped peeled oranges to preserve your salad.
Don't be afraid to add in more stuff to sizzle it up. You could even add things like yogurt.
If you are using apples, try to use lime juice, or keep the salad refrigerated to prevent the apples from turning brown.
To make a cocktail style fruit salad, add between 1 and 2 cups of good quality orange juice, and between 3 tablespoons and 1/3 cup of sugar, all depending on the amount you are preparing.
Are you not sure which fruits will taste good together? Don't worry! Throw in a few fruits and it will taste great. As a general guide, berries taste good with everything, strawberries and kiwis are a common pair, and Mandarin oranges add flavor to anything.
To make your fruit salad look interesting and inviting, use different cutting methods. Make it round, square, oval. Use small biscuit cutters and cut out different shapes. Let the kids help with this fun idea.
Bananas turn brown quickly. If you expect to have leftovers, cut up the bananas and coat them lightly with lemon juice before mixing with the rest.
If you happen to use watermelon, make it into a bowl to hold the salad - cut it lengthwise a couple of inches off-center, use a melon baller to scoop out the edible part, and then later put the finished salad into the hollowed-out melon. Use the other piece as a lid, if you like.
Strive for similar textures but different colors.
Warnings
Be sure to remove seed from fruits such as watermelons.
Beware of the food allergies of your guests.
Wash your fruits thoroughly before preparing your salad to remove any traces of pesticides.
Be careful when chopping fruits- knives are sharp and when mishandled can be dangerous. Sharper knives are safer. The sharper your knife, the less likely it is to slip and cut you!
